In this study, we report 2 cases of urinary tract infection by Aerococcus sanguinicola. A descriptive clinical-microbiological study was conducted on the presence of A. sanguinicola causing urinary tract infections.

Aerococcus sanguinicola corrig. Lawson et al. 2001: homotypic synonym, validly published: Parent taxon: Aerococcus Williams et al. 1953 (Approved Lists 1980)

Species belonging to the Aerococcus genus are isolated from the urine and blood of elderly patients suffering from urinary tract infections (UTIs). However, the clinical significance, phenotypic features and antimicrobial susceptibilities of these underestimated and/or misidentified species remain unclear.

Aerococci have often been misidentified as streptococci in microbiology laboratories, leading to an underestimation of these bacteria as causes of human infections. An increased awareness of aerococci and the introduction of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry, has led to an increased isolation of Aerococcus urinae and Aerococcus sanguinicola from human

Aerococcus sanguinicola

Aerococcus urinae and Aerococcus sanguinicola are newcomers to clinical and microbiological practice. The first report on A. urinae was published in 1989 (14) and the name designated in 1992 and A.sanguinicola was named in 2001 .

Recently, Au and A. sanguinicola genomes were characterized, postulating a core genome and determining the extent of genomic diversity among various clinical isolates.11 The species Aerococcus sanguinicola was originally described and validly published by Lawson et al. 2001.

The disease caused by Aerococcus has been underestimated, but mass spectrometry could be a simple method for identifying this pathogen. In this study, we report 2 cases of urinary tract infection by Aerococcus sanguinicola. A descriptive clinical-microbiological study was conducted on the presence of A. sanguinicola causing urinary tract infections.

I vissa nordiska länder används mecillinam även i enstaka fall vid komplicerad UVI (övre urinvägsinfektioner). Klinisk evidens är otillräcklig, varför EUCAST-brytpunkter för denna indikation saknas.

CCUG43001 ›CCUG 43001 More » Aerococcus urinae is increasingly recognized as a potentially significant urinary tract bacterium. A. urinae has been isolated from urine collected from both males and females with a wide range of clinical conditions, including urinary tract infection (UTI), urgency urinary incontinence (UUI), and overactive bladder (OAB). Aerococcus sanguinicola is a Gram-positive coccus first described in 2001.

Aerococcus sanguinicola is a member of the bacterial genus Aerococcus and is a Gram-positive, catalase-negative coccus growing in clusters. This species was defined in 2001 and has since then been increasingly recognized as a pathogen causing urinary tract infections and also invasive infections including infective endocarditis.
